19-21 January, negotiations on the post-2015 framework began in New York. The purpose of the three day meeting between member states was to conduct a "stocktaking" of the preparations for a new sustainable development agenda. The meeting was the first of eight scheduled sessions (January-July 2015) , with the final framework scheduled for adoption at a UN Summit in September 2015.
In a study commissioned by the German Council for Sustainable Development, Stakeholder Forum has examined integration in the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and put forward stakeholder proposals which could be used to improve the balance of the three dimensions of sustainable development within the goals.
The UN Secretary General has delivered his long awaited synthesis report on the post-2015 development agenda. The report re-emphasises the need for the 17 global goals recommended by the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals, while also introducing a completely new setof six ´essential elements’ (para 63) as a means to address the challenges of communicating the monumentous global framework.
The new President of the General Assembly, Mr Sam Kutesa (Uganda), started his year-long term on 16 September. He is the successor to John Ashe (Atigua and Barbuda) and will preside over the final year of the Post-2015 deliberations.
