Opening Statement of the International Trade Union Confederation at the Fourth session of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals

In its opening statement at the fourth session of the Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development on 17 June 2013, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) emphasised the importance of the inclusion of full employment and decent work as well as universal social protection in the post-2015 development agenda for sustainable development.

Since work has become more precarious and informal across all countries, no matter their development status, decent work can now be considered one of the key factors in making the transition to a more socially inclusive and economically dynamic development model and to achieve poverty eradication, combat inequality, including income inequality.
