SDSN Releases Post-2015 Report: An Action Agenda for Sustainable Development
The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has published its Report for the UN Secretary-General, entitled An Action Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Report outlines key challenges that should be prioritised in order to achieve sustainable development, suggesting a list of ten possible Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and affiliated targets for post-2015. It proceeds to explain how each of these goals contribute to the ‘four’ dimensions of sustainable development, with good governance including peace and security being the new dimension alongside the conventional social, economic and environmental elements.
The SDSN is a UN Secretary-General launched initiative that engages scientists, engineers, business and civil society leaders, and development practitioners for evidence-based problem solving. It promotes solutions and initiatives that demonstrate the potential of technical and business innovation to support sustainable development. The report was written by the SDSN Leadership Council, whose members represent a diverse mix of these stakeholders.
A draft version of the Report was made available for public consultation prior to its release, with a wide range of stakeholders and individuals, including academia, the private sector and NGOs all providing comments to be fed into the final version of the report.
The SDSN Report is one of several inputs the UN Secretary-General will draw upon to create his own report on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the UN Development Agenda beyond 2015 that will be delivered Member States in September 2013. The proposed SDGs and affiliated targets outlined in the SDSN Report are one of many contributions to the debate on SDGs and have therefore not been agreed upon by governments at the UN level.
